Sustainability

Our Sustainability Commitment

Sustainability is integral to our corporate purpose of empowering the future of energy through low-carbon, smart solutions. As Singapore’s national grid operator, we deliver reliable electricity and gas through one of the world’s most efficient networks. We also empower businesses in Singapore and the region with sustainable energy solutions, helping them achieve their sustainability goals.

In creating long-term value for our stakeholders, we focus our sustainability efforts on three strategic pillars: Stewarding Environmental Action, Caring for Our People and Community, and Championing Responsible Growth.

SP Group Sustainability Framework

Aligning towards shared focus areas, targets and metrics

SP Group views sustainability as a strategic imperative that underpins our goal of empowering the future of energy for everyone. In our unique national role, we enable Singapore’s energy transition while helping commercial and industrial customers decarbonise toward their climate targets. We carry out these national and ecosystem responsibilities supported by a consistent sustainability framework applied through the organisation. Within our sustainability framework, we focus our efforts on three strategic pillars: Stewarding Environmental Action, Caring for Our People and Community, and Championing Responsible Growth underpinned by seven material topics that were determined through a structured materiality assessment.

Material Topics

1. Stewarding Environmental Action

2. Caring for our People and Community

3. Championing Responsible Growth

* While we aim to reach net zero by 2050, covering our absolute scope 1 and 2 emissions, Singapore faces constraints in renewable energy deployment and nascency in hydrogen technology. As more than 90% of our emissions are beyond our direct control - our aim to reach net zero is therefore contingent upon i) rapid decarbonisation of Singapore’s power generation and replacement of natural gas with hydrogen; ii) reliability, availability and economic viability of technological advances and low-carbon technologies, such as EVs for industrial uses, green transportation, fuels, SF6 and refrigerant replacements; and iii) effective international collaboration in areas such as carbon credits (e.g. Article 6 of the Paris Agreement).

Sustainability Governance

Sustainability Governance

The Board formed the Board Sustainability Committee (SC) to oversee and monitor sustainability and climate-related strategies, plans, committments and policies. The Executive Leadership Team (ELT), guided by the Sustainability Committee, is tasked with implementing practical applications of SP Group's sustainability strategy. The ELT is supported by the Sustainability Team.

The Sustainability Team monitors sustainability matters, guides the organisation on its corporate sustainability reporting obligations, and embeds sustainability strategies and initiatives across the business.

The Sustainability Taskforce comprising representatives from key business units, drives and executes initiatives to enhance sustainability integration across all facets of the organisation. The Taskforce works in close partnership with the Sustainability Team.
