SINGAPORE, 29 JANUARY 2026 – To support the nation’s efforts in shaping an elder-friendly society, SP Group (SP) is donating S$700,000 to Care Corner Singapore to launch its Frailty Management Programme (FMP) for seniors. The donation will also enable children at Care Corner’s Student Care Centres to enjoy nutritious meals regularly, as well as strengthen their mental wellness and resilience. In addition, the funds will provide timely special education intervention for children with learning difficulties. This brings SP’s donations to Care Corner in the past three years to S$1.4 million to date.

Frailty management and holistic active ageing

The FMP is being rolled out at Care Corner’s Active Ageing Centres (AAC) at Woodlands and Marsiling. SP and Care Corner aim to prevent and reverse frailty in seniors through early intervention, with a comprehensive and tailored care plan and close monitoring, to address their physical, nutritional and social needs.

In Singapore, falls are a leading cause of injury among seniors. About one-third of older adults aged 60 and above have fallen more than once[1]. Falls can result in complications such as hip fractures, long-term hospitalisation, loss of confidence and independence, and in severe cases, even death.

The FMP helps seniors improve their mobility, strength, balance, and general well-being. Seniors receive regular nutrition food packs containing high-protein food, which are essential for muscle building, bone health and overall energy levels. These organised group sessions also prevent social isolation amongst seniors, by encouraging them to step out of their home and engage with the community.

Nurturing children’s nutritional and mental health

SP Group’s contribution will drive a range of programmes for children at Care Corner’s Student Care Centres. It builds on SP’s support over the past three years, providing about 240,000 nutritious meals for lunch, tea breaks and special occasions. Proper nutrition and eating habits play a part in helping students achieve developmental milestones and improve overall health[2]. This year’s donation goes towards:

  • Continued provision of nutritious meals for students, while learning more about nutrition and basic cooking skills
  • A programme that builds children's emotional literacy, awareness of behaviours to keep themselves safe, and growth mindset to enhance their well-being, resilience and confidence in navigating everyday challenges
  • Targeted intervention for children with learning challenges to enhance academic skills and build confidence.

Fostering intergenerational cohesion

The announcement of SP Group’s donation was made at the launch event today at the Care Corner Active Ageing Centre in Woodlands, and officiated by Ms Hany Soh, Adviser to Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC GROs (Woodgrove). Ms Soh witnessed the presentation of SP’s donation to Care Corner, which was made through Community Chest.

It was a meaningful occasion where seniors bonded and connected with children from Care Corner’s Student Care Centre. Together, they enjoyed nutritious meals prepared by the children, using locally sourced ingredients. The seniors showed the progress they have made in the FMP by demonstrating their strengthening and balance exercises. Adding festive cheer, volunteers from SP, also known as SP Heart Workers, brightened the centre with vibrant Chinese New Year decorations.

Ms Soh said, “Taking proactive measures today will help our seniors lead healthier and more fulfilling lives. By tackling frailty early and holistically, we empower them to stay active, independent, and connected to the community. As for our young ones, we want to provide them with the fundamental resources needed to aid growth and development in their formative years. Through collective care and shared efforts, we can build a stronger, healthier future for all generations.”

Mr Stanley Huang, Group CEO of SP Group, added, “As Singapore’s population ages and frailty becomes an increasingly pressing challenge, supporting our seniors is not just the responsibility of our healthcare system. Through our partnership with Care Corner, we aspire to create a community where every generation thrives with dignity and purpose. Just as we invest in building a sustainable future, we must also invest in the well-being of our seniors and the growth of young minds. It takes a whole-of-society effort – from caregivers to the wider community – to advance with timely and targeted steps, for a healthier Singapore across the ages.”

“At Care Corner, we believe that it is important to break the cycle of frailty by providing a space for our seniors to stay safe, keep mobile and build confidence so that they can continue living well in their homes and communities. Through our Frailty Management Programme, we want to equip our seniors with the tools needed to build strength, by incorporating simple movements and everyday items to the exercise routines. We are also glad to be able to continue our meals and enrichment programmes for children at our Student Care Centres”, said Mr Christian Chao, Chief Executive Officer of Care Corner.

One senior who has benefitted from an early pilot of the FMP is 79-year-old Mr Subramaniam Alagappa. He spent the past year caring for his wife during her cancer treatment, prioritising her recovery over his own health. As her condition improved, he joined the FMP to regain strength and confidence. After 12 weeks of training, he feels stronger, has attained better physical balance, and is less fearful of falling. He shared, “I feel more encouraged now that I can take charge of my well-being and continue to care for my wife. The programme taught me the right exercises and deepened my understanding of proper nutrition.”
