SP Mobility and Huawei launched Singapore’s first ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging that is enabled with a battery energy storage system (BESS). The charging points are located at Temasek Polytechnic. The BESS stores electricity when the charger is not in use, and discharges it back during EV charging. This reduces demand on the grid and enables faster and more reliable charging. It can add up to 200km of range in around five minutes for compatible vehicles, significantly reducing charging time to support the needs of commercial fleets, including electric heavy goods vehicles, and other high-mileage drivers.
The launch event was officiated by Mr Baey Yam Keng, Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Transport, and Mayor for North East District.
