Reaffirms commitment to nearly 100 community and social programmes to drive inclusive growth and sustainable philanthropy
SINGAPORE, 1 AUGUST 2025 – SP Group (SP) has raised S$1 million through its annual Charity Golf event, matching last year’s record sum. The contributions will go to the SP Heartware Fund which supports close to 100 community and social service programmes under Community Chest, benefiting seniors, children and youth from lower-income families.
Held at Tanah Merah Country Club, about 200 partners participated in the charity golf and dinner, including guests from China, Thailand, Japan and South Korea. The event took place during a landmark year, as the company celebrates SG60 and its own 30th anniversary since corporatisation.
Speaking at the event, Ms Leong Wai Leng, Chairman of SP Group, said, “We are commemorating these milestones by scaling up our community initiatives this year. Equally important to us is being able to create a multiplier effect, rallying others to also do their part for the programmes we support. We are encouraged by the strong response of our business partners who have contributed to these worthy causes.”
Chairman of Community Chest, Mr Chew Sutat, added, “As a longstanding partner of Community Chest, SP Group is a sterling example of sustainable philanthropy in action. Through their SP Heartware Fund, they have been uplifting the lives of seniors in need, as well as children and youth from lower income families. We are heartened by their support, and we encourage more like-minded businesses to partner us in longer-term giving with far-reaching impact on individuals and families.”
In early June, SP held its inaugural SP Community Festival to launch its SG60 and SP30 celebrations. It is hosting 600 children and youth on its SG60 Journeys from the Heart excursions to Singapore landmarks, onboard an electric bus. They are accompanied by staff volunteers, known as SP heart Workers. SP Group will also be matching all its staff donations three times this year, up from its usual dollar-for-dollar matching.
This year, as part of the national SG60 campaign SGSHARE, all donations to the SP Heartware Fund will be further matched dollar-for-dollar under the SG Gives matching grant.
Since its inception in 2005, the SP Heartware Fund has raised more than S$30 million to support critical programmes under Community Chest. This supports social service agencies providing seniors with home-help services, befriending, caregiver support and care in community homes.
In its expanded reach since 2021, the Fund extends to children and youth to meet their daily needs, nutrition, education and enrichment resources. SP also underwrites the cost to run the event and other fund-raising operating expenses, so that every dollar raised goes directly to the beneficiaries.
Among the many lives touched by the SP Heartware Fund are youths with autism, like 18-year-old Wallace Tan, who was diagnosed with autism when he was two. After years of struggling in mainstream settings, Wallace found stability at St. Andrew’s Autism School and is now thriving in St. Andrew’s Autism Centre’s Dignity of Work programme, which is supported by SP Group. The programme trains youths like Wallace for supported employment. His mother, Edwina Fan, recalls the moment he crossed a street safely on his own as a breakthrough in his journey toward independence. With the community’s support, she now holds renewed hope that Wallace will one day live a life of dignity and purpose.
